Chicken coop building videos – The chicken coop and henhouse illustrated here in these videos hardly cost anything to build. The chickens that we hatched turned out all to be roosters, so we only had chickens for a few months. The hen house is well insulated though and should be good for the winter months. It is along the side of the house and if I didn’t tell you, you wouldn’t know it was there from the front of the house.
I salvaged 99% of the materials from other projects and old pallets. The metal mesh was “new” but left over from a job years earlier. The same is true for the roofing materials. Chickens don’t need anything fancy, it just needs to be easy to clean once in a while.
Chicken coop building videos – before you start.
One piece of advice I would share to anyone looking to get chickens. Take a course first. It is important to know what they require. I started to build before taking the course. I ended up re-doing a bunch of things and I would have built the hen house differently from the start if I knew then what I learned from the course.
Here is the organization I took my course from. It was online and super informative. Chickens 101
In all honesty and to be transparent. This coop is no longer in existence. They were part of the old homestead project and when we sold the house, the new owners didn’t want it. I’m not going to lie, it was hard to tear this all down. However, stay tuned because the new house and homestead will have chickens also. Hopefully in 2026. So stay tuned and check out those pages and videos. I will take what I have learned from these builds and make the new ones even better! In the meantime, check out the blogs for more interesting reading .
