Wet Soil Tolerant Plants

Wet soil tolerant plants are a great idea if you have a spot where the water pools after a rain or an irrigation system hitting an area twice due to the shape of your yard. These areas can be a challenge because the many plants like well drained soil, and if the area has standing water in the summer. mosquitos will breed. Wet soil tolerant plants can help with both of those issues. So, below is a short list of plants that like to have their feet wet. Other than the trees, most of these are also shade tolerant plants, which I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise.

It is easier to plant plants that like the area that is already there than to try to fight an area to change. If the bottom of a hill is where the water stands. Plant a Highbush Cranberry or Lungwort. That will probably be better than trying to raise the grade and level the hill.

This is a general list of wet soil tolerant plants. Therefore, please check that whatever you plant is not considered an invasive species for your area. This is by no means a complete list either. There are many options depending on your situation and growing “zone”.
